About This Project

Grady Memorial Hospital is the only Level 1 Trauma Center for the region. With Grady’s status as the largest hospital in the state, having medical school affiliations with Emory and Morehouse, the Neuroscience Unit is the new “Center of Excellence” addition for the Grady system.
This project was the blueprint for the consolidation of their existing Neurological ICU and step-down beds while expanding capacity. The vision resulted in the design of 18 ICU beds and 23 step-down beds. The 8th Floor- B Wing, originally a shell space, has been newly constructed into a tranquil healing oasis. New caregiver nursing stations were added to minimize the constantly moving, chaotic, fast paced environment. Multiple “Perching Stations” offer medical record access with a closer proximity to patients while providing physicians and medical staff locations for collaboration. With Grady’s building restraints, real estate is a premium. That is why DDG designed individual and shared stations in small footprints that adjust to the architectural features of the building.
